R&B Brewing – Green Screen IPA Review
On a recent visit to the R&B Brewing Pizza & Ale House, we were knocked out by the amazingly consistent, solid and impressive beers on tap under the regime of current Head Brewer Gordon Jones. Upon leaving, we picked up a variety pack to sample at home and found that the same quality prevailed in packaged form. We of course had to select one or two to share with you here on Beer Me BC.
In May, R&B released a COVID-themed beer named Green Screen IPA, billed as the first beer can that could be invisible to co-workers on a Zoom call. This requires some setup, but the marketing team is fully invested and even supplies a QR code to use for a demo (here’s the link).
To the eye, this is a fully golden IPA with decent head and lacing. Then there’s an impressive bouquet, its sweet hop aroma promising good things to follow.
On the palate, there is an oily pininess that gives way to tropical flavours that are hard to nail. Fortunately, Untappd notes, “Double dry-hopped with huge additions of Cashmere to showcase melon and lime in this juicy IPA”, and on reflection that seems pretty accurate.
Another new thing: on the side of the can, there’s a set of perforations that act as a zipper to pull off the green shrink-wrap. As noted in the story below,
The design took advantage of Summit Printing’s new capability…Summit launched this offering with the ability to perforate the sleeve, allowing for easy removal for recycling.
If you can find this beer, be sure to give it a try. However we would say that for pretty much everything we’re sampling out of R&B these days.
