Longwood Brewery – Conjunction DIPA Review
What is a conjunction? In the fantasy world created by Polish author Andrezej Sapwoski for his Witcher series (and later depicted in the video games and the Netflix show) the Conjunction of the Spheres was a cataclysm that happened in the distant past. It caused beings from different worlds to be trapped in the same dimension. This would eventually give rise to the monster-hunting Witchers, such as the main protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
Can you make a beer out of a conjunction? If it’s a conjunction of six different hops, including Cashmere, Chinook, El Dorado, Simcoe, Mosaic, and Zamba, then Longwood Brewery says yes, you can.
Conjunction DIPA pours copper with a big, tan, tight bubbled head that lingers well. The big aroma is of peach, pine, and stewed oranges with hints of pineapple, grass, and spice. It is creamy textured with a full body and high carbonation. Orange is prominent in the flavour with notes of fuzzy peach, pine, and a moderate alcohol bite. Bitterness is definitely present but balanced by the sweetness and alcohol. There is also enough malt flavour to balance such a hoppy beer. Conjunction finishes long and mildly bitter with a note of marmalade.
