Four Winds – Cherryoperis Brett Saison with Sour Cherries Review
Four Winds Brewing Co. presents its Cherryoperis, a variation on its well-established Operis, from its Eurus Series. Strawberry Pinkish-Red in colour, this fruited saison pours with fine bubbles and leaves a slight lace in your glass.
The vendor describes the flavour as somewhat reminiscent of cherry pie, but don’t fret that this will be some gooey sweet drink. This is a proper saison in the Belgian/Low Countries tradition, subtle in nature and true to style.
Cherryoperis can’t be described as chuggable, but it’s certainly a drinkable beer. The use of Brettanomyces adds the usual funky aspect, but it’s not overwhelming. Those who are sometimes hesitant around sours and Brett beers need not fear.
This seasonal beer is aged in Okanagan wine barrels and presented in a wine-sized 750ml cork-and-caged bottle. A nice beverage to sample with a special friend.
