Backcountry Brewing – Everything is Awesome Brown Ale Review

Hopwired Festival, in its second year, is an annual event that combines the love of craft breweries and artisan coffee. Backcountry Brewing’s “Everything is Awesome” brown ale was the official beer of Hopwired 2019.

The brewers at Backcountry chose to brew a brown ale using hand baked “Speculaas” style cookies ( a traditional Dutch style cookie made with cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg) right out of their own oven that were then aged on coffee selected and roasted by Counterpart coffee roastery.

This beer pours a very opaque espresso coloured ale with just a hint of a warm caramel coloured afterglow. It has a huge and moussey tan coloured head that slowly dissipates. The aroma is mostly one of a bitter roasted espresso coffee but with just a hint of cinnamon and cardamom. This medium bodied and lightly carbonated ale has just the right amount of coffee bitterness along with cookie spiciness to make it a perfect choice for a coffee focused event.
