One of BC’s smallest breweries is striving to make a big impact once again. Royston Nano Brewery of Royston BC (in northeastern Vancouver Island’s Comox Valley region) has made the news for their fundraising efforts in the past, and as this weekend kicks off, they’ll be launching their latest charitable effort.
At 5 pm this Friday January 31st, Ace Brewing Company in Courtenay will host the official launch party for Love Potion NEVI IPA. This hazy “North East Vancouver Island IPA” is a collaboration between Ace and Royston.
Royston’s owner/operator is Dr. Brad Harris, a full-time family physician by day and self-taught brewer by night. He describes Royston Nano as a “nomadic brewery that collaborates with like-minded BC breweries for charity”. Harris brews for himself at home on his 150L homebrew system, but when launching a fundraising project he pairs with a commercial brewery such as Ace. As Harris notes, “Ace Brewing has graciously provided their brewhouse and expertise to bring Royston Nano Brewery’s vision to your glass.”
Harris’ past efforts have benefited recipients such as BC Children’s Hospital and YANA Comox Valley, an organization that helps parents whose children need to travel for medical treatment. Net proceeds from the sale of Love Potion will be split between both.
Love Potion is a Double Dry-Hopped IPA featuring Mosaic, Citra and Mandarina Bavaria hops. At 7% ABV, it is said to deliver tropical fruit with a restrained bitterness and palate-pleasing finish. For an added treat, at Friday’s launch event, a special cask of Love Potion further imbued with Sabro hops will be tapped for those present. 97.3 The Eagle radio will be live on location to celebrate the event.
Love Potion will be available on tap and for growler fills at Ace Brewing as well as a few Comox Valley taphouses. Comox Valley residents can enjoy a locally-crafted beer and contribute to a good cause at the same time.
