12 Vancouver Island Brewery – 2017 Barrel Aged Hermannator Ice Bock
Probably the most anticipated beer from Vancouver Island Brewing each year is the Hermannator. For the 30th anniversary VIB has barrel aged this iconic beer for an upped anti after nearly a third of a century of brewing. Sold in bomber bottles this beer is a dark mahogany colour with a sliver of head that settles slowly atop the glass. The aroma is strong with notes of toffee, oak, bourbon and molasses in a rich and intoxicating manner. Tasting the beer it has a big intensity but not as much body as you may expect. The bit toasted character of toffee and molasses comes through with a sweetness and quite enjoyable flavour while the body remains light for the style and strength. This is a flavourful and intense beer that is a slight adaptation of what has been done in years past.
