Steamworks Brewing Co. – 2017 Scarlet Red Rye Ale Barley Wine Review
In their Barrel Aged Series of beers the 2017 Scarlet is a Barleywine that is labelled as being a Red Rye Ale. This beer pours from the 650ml bottle a colour of cloudy amber-brown with three fingers of dense, off-white and lacing head. The aroma is rich with a bourbon-oak, vanilla and toffee in a boozy and warming way. Tasting the beer it has a lightness on the tongue along side the very smooth creamy texture. Vanilla notes come through in spades shading the whisky, vanilla and oak character that add a sweet, creamy and decadent flavour to the mix. The warming nature of this beer along side the creamy texture and depth of flavour makes for a delicious aperitif-style beverage and is worth enjoying today and aging for years to come.
Alcohol – 9.5%
