Powell Brewery Funky Gose Medina Review Powell Brewery – Funky Gose Medina Review

The Funky Gose Medina is aged in Merlot Barrels and fermented with Brettanomyces yeast. Sold in champaign corked 750ml bottles this beer pours a cloudy orange-straw colour with one finger of head that settles quickly and without a trace. The aroma is full of funk with a barnyard, wet hay like character along side an earthy-oak tone and a touch of dark cherry. The flavour is relatively light but still quite intense. A sourness comes up front and leads into a brett-funk and mellow oak character. On the finish comes a butter and popcorn like Diacytl flavour that lingers through the end of the taste. For being a Gose, the salt is somewhat subtle but offers a mellow  brininess to the flavour.
