Powell Brewery – Fresh Hopped Wild IPA Review
In a bundle of trendy beer words, Powell Brewery has released a Fresh Hopped IPA fermented using wild yeast. This beer comes in at 50 IBU and 6.5% alcohol while pouring a cloudy golden colour. One finger of head tops the glass and the beer gives off an aroma of pineapple, passion fruit, wet grass and a bit of wild yeast funk. The blend of wild yeast and fresh hops gives a unique, slightly odd, and somehow pleasant combination of aromas. Tasting the beer, the fresh hops give it a grassy freshness along side the tropical fruit, citrus and pine character. This is blended with the wild yeast character that is a touch barnyard-like with a kick of wet-rag. Those sound a bit off but that is the wild-yeast character that BC loves. Wild yeast and fresh hops are not for everyone but there are many craft beer geeks that will likely drool in anticipation for this well crafted beer from Powell Street.
