Four Winds Brewing Co. – Norweigian Wood Dry Hopped Farmhouse Ale Review
The Norweigian Wood is a traditional Norweigian farmhouse ale that has been aged in french oak barrels, brewed with wild yeast and fermented at a warm temperature. This corked craft beer comes in a 750ml bottle and when pouring it appears a light golden colour that is hazy and has two fingers of loosely packed, lightly lacing head. The aroma is funky with qild yeast character along with pineapple and a sweetness to go with the earthy, funk character. Tasting the beer, the Brett character is up front with a classic wet-horse blanket like character and high carbonation. From here the pineapple fruit character grows with a mellow sweetness while a mellow hop bitterness builds behind. The body and lingering flavour are of a classic farmhouse style ale while up front the Brett, wild yeast character takes charge of the flavour. This is a well crafted, funky beer that truly shows off the flavours of wild yeast while leaving the palate in a more neutral, pleasant finish.
