Powell Street Craft Brewery – Idaho 7 Sour Ale Review
Powell Street Brewing is continuing with their single hopped kettle sour series of beers with teh Idaho 7 Sour Ale. This beer is 14 IBU and 6.2% alcohol while being brewed with the fairly new, and un-explored Idaho 7 hop. This beer comes in a bomber bottle and is clear and golden in colour with less than a finger of head that settles without a trace. Smelling the beer it has a unique hop tone with notes of citrus, passion fruit and peach for a fruity, and lightly sour aroma. The flavour too is a balance of tartness and fruit-hop character. The tartness is prevalent but not overpowering and works well with the citrus, passion fruit and an almost white-wine like character. The flavour is not all that complex but offers a balance between the sourness and hop character. The Idaho 7 hop lends well to this beer and helps to complete one of the better kettle sours to hit the shelves of BC craft beer retailers.
