Steel & Oak Brewing and Freigeist Bierkultur Collaboration Steinbier Lager
Steel & Oak Brewing and Freigeist Bierkultur are both breweries that love to brew traditional German-styled beer. This collaboration is a Steinbier lager which uses hot stones submerged in Wort as a way to caramelize the sugars. This results in a unique brew flavour and aroma. Pouring this beer it is a colour of amber and is topped with two fingers of lightly lacing head. The aroma is rich with malt tones and a light caramel sweetness. Don’t let the brewing process scare you here as the caramel notes are subtle on the nose. The flavour has a malt forward character but also a toasted, caramel tone that adds body and flavour. The sweetness of caramel doesn’t come through in strength but the roasted character is quite pleasant and has a light lingering bitterness. This is a subtle twist that make a big difference and this Steinbier is a delicious, flavourful beer that is worth giving a try!
