Main Street Brewing Berliner Weisse Review Main St. Brewing Co. – Checkpoint Charlie Berliner Weisse Review

Main Street Brewing’s Seasonal Series of limited release beers includes the Checkpoint Charlie, a 4.0% Berliner Weisse that comes in at 15 IBUs. From the bomber bottle this beer is a light, straw colour and has an aroma of wheat, lemon and a sourness to it. Close to two fingers of dense head slowly settles and leaves light lacing behind. Propped up by a higher than typical alcohol for the style the beer’s appearance is a cut above. The flavour is crisp and tart with a lemon-zest kick up front the sourness leads into a wheaty body. The overall flavour is clean and crisp and has a very mild overall feel. What may seem a bit boring to some would do well with a traditional syrup flavour but even on its own it is quite enjoyable. The 4.0% alcohol gives more body than you may expect and the acidity is a bit more than is typical for a Berliner Weisse.
