Granville Island Brewing – So-Cal Style IPA Review
From Granville Island Brewing’s Small Batch series of beers comes a big IPA called the So-Cal Style. This beer comes in at 7.8% and a big 80 IBUs. From the bomber bottle this beer pours a light amber colour and is very cloudy. Small bits of hop protein are also in suspension of this beer. With nearly three fingers of lacing head the So-Cal Style gives off classic IPA tones of pine, grapefruit and citrus while a malty, lightly toasted aroma hides in the back. The flavour is a big hit of grapefruit notes along side a light piney flavour. The malt character helps to prop up the beer and despite being 80 IBU the beer isn’t extremely bitter. The higher alcohol blends into the mix and comes across quite balanced and smooth. This is a classically styled, BC IPA and is worth trying out!
