Barkerville Brewing Co. – Prospector’s Pilsner Review
Quesnel’s Barkerville Brewing continues with their gold rush themed beers. No. 13 in their releases is the Prospector’s Pilsner, At 5.0% and 12 IBUs this beer is on the lighter side of the style as it is designed to be a crisp, refreshing brew to sit back with after a long day. From the 473ml can this beer pours a colour of straw-gold and has two fingers of loose head which settles at a moderate pace. The aroma is of biscuit and light malt with a touch of citrus. The hop character is very mild but adds a lightness and refreshing note to the nose. Tasting the beer it is a touch creamy in texture and malt forward with a depth of flavour that was not expected. The malt character comes with a defined sweetness that is bigger than typical for the style. This adds to the body as well and leaves a residual sweetness behind on the palate. This is a well crafted and enjoyable Pilsner with a bit more sweetness to it than is typical.
