Dead Frog Brewery – Blueberry Blast Kettle Sour Review
Dead Frog has taken a local berry approach to their seasonal Blueberry Blast Kettle Sour. This limited release beer comes in a bomber bottle and was brewed using freshly picked BC blueberries. Pouring this bottle into the glass it is very cloudy and an amber like colour with a finger and a half of quickly settling head. The smell is not all that tart but big with a wheaty berry tone. The sweetness of the blueberries gives a bit of a syrupy aroma. The flavour too has nice wheat tones to it and a blueberry sweetness. The sour notes are quite light with a slight lemon-like acidity that ads a bit of a kick to the flavour. This beer is sour but not when compared to most other kettle sours. The blueberry sweetness is pleasant and has a bit of a jam-like tone to it while the sour notes add balance as an opposing force to the sweetness. This is a unique take on the kettle sour style and offers something both sweet and sour in a fruit-filled package.
