Steel & Oak Brewing Co. – Sapperton 2016 Anniversary Ale Review
For Steel & Oak Brewing’s 2nd birthday they brewed up a beer called the Sapperton which is a lightly Kettle Soured ale. Pouring this beer from the bomber bottle it is a colour of light copper and has a thick finger of head which settles without a trace. The aroma is malty and tart with a balance of lightly sweet and sour tones. The sourness is quite mellow and adds a distinct and unique twist to the malt character. The flavour is unique to say the least. It resembles somewhat of a Marzen style with a subtle sourness to it. Caramel and toasted malt give depth to the flavour while the sour tones give lige to the beer on the tongue. The Sapperton is approachable and easy drinking yet big in malt character and somewhat heavy. With great juxtapose and odd balance the Sapperton is a great blend of styles and a representation of why Steel & Oak has made the impact that they have.
