Coal Harbour Brewing Co. – Sunrise Gose Review
The Coal Harbour Brewing Company has brewed a Gose and packaged it in cans. Taking a Summer Sessions approach to the style this Gose is a low 3.8% alcohol and has a bit more sour to it than many similarly categorized beers. From the 355ml can the Sunrise Gose pours a colour of gold with a small amount of visible sediment in the beer. Two fingers of head tops the beer and settles quickly without a trace. The aroma is citrusy with notes of lemon, orange and grapefruit with a light coriander spice. Sipping the beer it is sharp to start off with a strong acidity for the style the citrus and coriander are up front but settle quickly leaving a light bodied, wheat tone to linger behind. The sour notes are short but come on with fury and leave a subdued, lingering sourness. The salt content is also quite mild but as the sour notes leave the front of the tongue can feel a tingle of saltiness. This is a fairly unique approach to the Gose style with bigger sour tones and lighter alcohol than is typical. All in all it makes for a sessionable and refreshing summer beer.
