Tofino Brewing Co. – Super Tuff Imperial Session Ale Review
What is an Imperial Session Ale you ask? Well it is what happened when Tofino Brewing decided to reinvent their popular Tuff Session Ale as a big, 10% alcohol beer. This wax-dipped bomber bottle pours a beer that is chestnut brown in colour and is topped with one finger of lacing head. The aroma coming from the glass is of roasted malt, oak, whiskey and light smoke. The aroma is similar to what you may expect from a barrel aged Barley Wine or English Strong Ale. The body is thick and the flavour intense. The creamy body hits the tongue and brings forth a rather boozy, bourbon character with a strong oak component. The flavour is intense and boozy but it still comes across reasonably balanced. The Super Tuff is by no means a session beer but we can ignore the roots from which this beer came. Enjoy today or cellar this beer for a year or two down the road; it will likely improve with time.
Alcohol – 10%
Size – 650ml bottle
