Townsite Brewing Inc. – Peralta Wild Pale Ale Review
Wild Fermentation has been a trending subject in BC and the word has made it up the coast to Powell River. Townsite Brewing has released the Peralta Wild Pale Ale. What is Peralta you ask? Well, according to Townsite it is the oldest concrete ship afloat in the world and it is also a Pale Ale bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces brusellensis yeast. Pouring this beer from the bomber bottle it is a colour of amber and is topped with two thick fingers of head. The aroma from this beer has a distinct barnyard, wet blanket like aroma that is very distinct along side an apple and pear like aroma that adds a light sourness to the mix. The aroma description may sound a bit odd but all together it works quite well. Tasting the beer it has an earthiness to it with the barnyard brett flavours that add depth. Again an apple-like tartness and sweetness creates a contrast with the other tones to make for a lighter than expected overall experience. The Peralta has similarities to other Brett beers but it is very unique. The apple notes add depth and complexity and make for a very drinkable and unique flavour profile.
