Central City Brewing- Ace of Hokkaido Golden Ale Review
Central City Brewing comes out swinging with their new Ace of Hokkaido Golden Ale. Named for the Sorachi Ace hop out of Japan, this Golden Ale is a single-hopped beer designed to feature the herbal characteristics of that particular hop variety. The Beer pours from the bomber bottle a golden amber colour. One finger of white head rests on top, slowly dissipating and leaving significant lacing on the glass. Smelling the beer offers aromas of grainy malts with light citrus notes, as well as earth and herbal tones. In the mouth the taste is of bread and grainy malts with a prominent herbal character, particularly fresh dill. Some subtle lemongrass flavours are evident too, although they come and go as the beer warms. The Ace of Hokkaido goes down easy with a light body and a lingering, slight bitterness. With a unique herbal character this is a unique addition to the golden ale style and an interesting way to showcase a single hop in a beer.
