Fernie Brewing & Whistler Brewing – Spring Shred Collaboration Red Session Ale Review
In the line of BC Craft Brewers Guild collaborations Fernie Brewing and Whistler Brewing have teamed up to brew the Spring Shred Red Session Ale. This light but somewhat dark beer comes in at 4.7% and pours a colour of reddish-brown with three full fingers of head. From the beer comes a malty and roasted aroma with caramel tones, and a light and earthy hop tone. The beer has an aroma that is light but grounded and stirdy at the same time. The flavour too is polarizing but balanced. The roasted malt tones are right up front with a caramel, lightly burnt sweetness. This builds into a light spice and darkness to the flavour. This may be a session Ale but it is not exactly light. It is big on flavour and has a nice body to it as well. The only thing that is light is the alcohol at a low 4.7%. The Spring Shred is a great beer to enjoy following the final days on the BC ski mountains.
Alcohol – 4.7%
Size – 650ml bottle
