Hearthstone Brewery – McCools Hazelnut Porter Review
Hearthstone Brewery has released the McCool’s Hazelnut Porter as a part of their 473ml canned beer lineup. This beer pours from the tall can as a dark brown colour and is topped with a finger or so of lightly lacing head. From the beer comes an aroma of light coffee, cocoa and toasted malt. The aroma is quite smooth and well balanced with a night nuttiness to it. The body is fairly big for a porter and the flavour is nutty and chocolate infused with a mild coffee bitterness to it. The hazelnut tones add a bit of extra body to the profile and helps to smooth out the chocolate and coffee tones. The McCool’s is a traditionally styled porter but the hazelnut notes just add a bit of extra body and a slight twist on flavour to up the anti and make for an even tastier beer.
