Tofino Brewing Co. – Dark Lager Review
There is something about the sessionability of a lager with the richness of a dark beer. Tofino Brewing Company has taken this to heart with their Dark Lager. Pouring from a 650ml bottle this 4.5% alcohol beer is a near black colour with one finger of head which settles quickly and without a trace. From the beer comes a rich and roasted chocolate flavour infused with coffee tones. The aroma is smooth and light but with a richness to it. Tasting the beer it has a light body and very drinkable flavour. A lager base gives grassy and light citrus notes that build into the coffee and chocolate tones. Despite the big, dark flavours the finish is rather dry with a lingering of chocolate flavour. The Tofino Dark Lager is a nice blend of light sessionability with dark malt tones of coffee and chocolate.
