Howe Sound Brewing – Ascension Triple IPA Review
There are not a lot of Triple IPAs avaialble in BC and at 11.0% this is a big beer! Coming in a bomber bottle rather than the typical 1000ml bottle Howe Sound’s core lineup come in this is a slightly more reasonable package size. From the bomber bottle the Ascension pours as an amber colour with two fingers of dense and heavily lacing head. From the beer comes a big nose of citrus, pine and light caramel notes. Surprisingly the aroma is not all that boozy despite the beer’s strength. The beer has a big and smooth body that leads into a fairly boozy flavour. A sweetness is joined with citrus notes, pine tones and a light tropical fruit flavour infusion. As far as IPAs go they don’t get much bigger than this but still the flavour is smooth and rather drinkable given the big alcohol content. Howe Sound has turned things up to 11% with the Ascension and there is no turning back!

My raiting of this beer would be quite close to a 5/5.
Thanks Mike, It was a very tasty beer. It was perhaps a little too intense for some which is why the rating is a bit lower than a 5/5 but if you want your shoes blown off with a hop-bomb this is an excellent beer!
I sure do like those hop bombs!
