Lighthouse Brewing Co. – Black Sam Licorice Stout Review
In the Explorer Series of limited release beers from Lighthouse Brewing comes the Black Sam Licorice Stout. This is a big beer at 7.2% and surely packs a punch. From the bomber bottle this flavour-packed beer pours a deep and thick black colour and is topped with two full fingers of lacing head. From the beer comes an aroma of chocolate, chocolate and deep-roasted malts and a subtle Licorice tone. The Licorice is rather subdued from what is expected but leaves room for the other aromas to shine. Tasting the beer it has a big body and that is matched with the intensity of flavour. Big Stout flavour comes up front with chocolate and roasted malt tones that are quite delicious. The Licorice flavour is rather light and subtle but adds an interesting and complex layer to the beer’s overall experience. This Licorice Stout is Stout first and Licorice second but together they make for something greater than you may expect. Grab a bottle or three before it is too late and Black Sam takes sail.
Alcohol – 7.2%

It’s to bad the licorice is not more prominent as I love a good licorice stout like Megadestroyer.
