Spinnaker’s Brewery – Sooke Harvest Fresh Hopped Pale Ale Review
In their continued effort to keep things local the Spinnaker’s Brewery has brewed up a Fresh Hopped Pale Ale using Cascade, Chinook and Willamette hops picked just up the road in Sooke, BC. From the bomber bottle this Pale Ale Pours as an amber colour with a finger and a half of lightly lacing head. From the beer comes a relatively sweet toasted malt and fresh hop aroma. Notes of tropical fruit join a slightly piney and resinous aroma to give a balanced smell of traditional and wet hops. The body of the beer is rather light and the flavour kicks off with a rather malty tone. A slightly sweet flavour leads up to a fairly bigger mid section which lingers through to the finish. The hop bitterness is fairly intense and to some extent masks the fresh hop flavours. There is a certain lightness and grass-like flavour that coincides with the hop bitterness but not to the extent that you may expect. This is a nice, well hopped Pale Ale with a light twist of fresh hop flavour that adds a lightness to the overall impression.
