Persephone Brewing Co. – Imperial Pilsner Review
Persephone Brewing Company has upped their Pilsner game and joined the select ranks of those in BC that are brewing an Imperial Pilsner. Tipping the style-scale this beer comes in at 8.0% alcohol which is strong, even for an Imperial. The bottle has some subtle detail which is new to the labels but it it inside the bottle that really counts. From the bomber bottle the Persephone Imperial Pilsner pours as a golden colour with two and a half fingers of dense and lacing head. An aroma of creamy malt, light German style hops and a touch of grass hit the nose in a full bodied way. The aroma is not at all boozy but it is clear that this beer will likely pack a punch. The flavour starts off smooth and creamy with a malty profile up front. As the flavour progresses a bit of a boozy kick is joined with a hoppy bitterness that settles in for the finish. The Persephone Imperial Pilsner is as big as they come in the style and with that comes a bit of an alcohol tone that is paired with a mid-hop bitterness. If you aren’t afraid of a strong beer then this one may just be for you.
