Townsite Brewing Inc. – Sour Series Blackberry Wheat Ale Review
From Powell River BC, Townsite Brewing has spread its wings and diversified its blackberry beer portfolio to include a new, second beer. As a part of the Sour Series of beers the Blackberry Wheat is a new, Fruit Sour offering from The Sunshine Coast. From the bottle the beer pours as a vibrant, pinkish red colour with three fingers of quick to disperse head. After leaving no trace of lacing on the glass the Sour Blackberry Wheat smells of a sharp tartness along with a light raspberry sweetness and Belgian wheat. The Sour tones come through rather strong but somehow in a light and refreshing manner. The body is bigger than expected and the tartness follows the same precedent. A puckering sour tone hits the tongue with a blackberry tone and very mild sweetness. The Witbier base is relatively mellow and unobtrusive allowing the sour blackberry tones to come through in full force. This is not a big sour beer, it is a sour-sour beer. It is quite refreshing and the tartness is a kick that is both unique and tasty.
