our Winds Brewing Co – Pequeno Cabo Tequila Barrel Aged Berliner Weisse Review
The name may be a bit of a mouthful but the Pequeno Cabo is a Mexican twist on a session-sour ale Berliner Weisse. Aged in Tequila Barrels this beer comes in at 4.2% and a mere 4 IBUS. From the champagne corked bottle the Pequeno Cabo pours as a slightly cloudy golden colour with nearly three fingers of head. The head settles quickly and without a trace but seems more significant than your typical Berliner Weisse styled beer. The aroma is sour with an earthy spic to it. The sour tones come through stronger than typical for the style and more of a bigger sour beer. The Tequila barrels give a oak-earthy spice. The flavour is crisp to start with a ctirus flavour and oakiness no the body. The tequila notes add a spicy and delicious twist to the lightly sour beer. The flavour is clearly Tequila but with the oak tones and sourness to cut the flavour it is surprisingly smooth and refreshing. This is a delicious and truly unique summer beer from Four Winds Brewing.
