4 Mile Brewing Co. – Sweet Potato Harvest Spiced Ale Review
The Sweet Potato Harvest Spiced Ale is a Thanksgiving-esque beer that seems to be available at a slightly odd time of year. As an autumn inspired beer that is available in the summer this brew is a twist on the other seasonal offerings on the shelves of retailers. From the wax-dipped, bomber bottle the beer pours as a cloudy amber-orange colour that has a significant amount of sediment floating in the beer. A spiced aroma of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg comes with a sweetness that has a slight maple tone to it makes for a spicy and earthy aroma. The beer is mid bodied and malt forward with a spicy kick. The nutmeg and ginger come through strong on the tongue and the sweet potato seems to add some sweetness to the mix. The Ginger tones add a bit of a bite near the finish without much of a lingering bitterness despite the 40 IBUs. This beer is light for a fall spiced beer but since it is the summer it kind of fits.
