Hagar’s Brewing Co. – Belgian Witbier Review
You don’t hear much about the Hagar’s Brewing Company. It was a longstanding staple of North Vancouver but was bought out by Howe Sound Brewing some time ago. There are still beers brewed under the Hagar’s label but are not actually produced at the Sailor Hagar’s pub in North Vancouver any longer. One of the beers that is available is a Witbier called just that, the Wit. From the bomber bottle this Belgian Witbier pours as a slightly clouded, golden colour with a finger and a half’s worth of quickly settling head. A very mild aroma of citrus, wheat and orange peal comes from the beer in a rather light and neutral fashion. The body is light and the flavour matches. A wheat ale flavour hits the tongue with a honey sweetness along side. The sweetness is bigger than expected and the Belgian tones do not come through like you may expect for the style and a citrus note lingers in the back. This beer is hard to find but if you manage to find a bottle and want to try something different – this is it.
