Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – Corn Hops Imperial Corn IPA Review
Corn is more often than not considered an adjunct when it comes to craft beer but Parallel 49 is looking to debunk this idea with their Imperial Corn IPA. With the high sugar content found in corn it is no suprise that this beer weighs in at a big 8.2%. From the bomber bottle the Corn Hops pours as a lightly clouded, golden colour topped with two thick fingers of heavily lacing head. An aroma strong with citrus and tropical fruit hops fills the notstrells along with a slight sweetness and alcohol tone. The aroma has a certain lightness and sessionability to it despite the high alcohol content and big 86 IBUs. The body is lighter than your typical imperial IPA but still rather big. A citrus-hop flavour takes charge along with a rather boozy flavour. for being big with hops the bitterness factor is actually rather mild. A mild sweetness adds to the flavour and contributes to the smooth body. COrn is not a detractor here but part of the solution in creating a well hopped, big IPA that is still light on the tongue and rather sessionable.
