Old Abbey Ales – Belgian Tripel India Pale Ale Review
Old Abbey Ales has upped their game and released bomber bottles of select BC brews. In a rather classic elegance the Belgian Tripel IPA is a blend of big IPA flavour with Belgian tradition. From the bottle conditioned package opens with vigor and pours as a golden colour topped with more than three full fingers of lacing head. The beer is difficult to pour based on the high carbonation and the beer bubbles away in the bottle releasing CO2. From this Old Abbey Ales Belgian IPA comes a citrus-infused hop aroma with a subtle belgian yeast tone. For being a whopping 9.0% alcohol the aroma is balanced and rather light. Tasting the beer a Belgian history comes known. A big body and well hopped, creamy and bubbly texture hit the tongue like a big, imperial IPA. A candi-sweetness joins the mix giving the Belgian Tripel notes to the beer. Hops mask much of the yeast tones and make the IPA side of this two-faced beer shine. The Old Abbey Ales Belgian Tripel IPA is a great balance of BC and Belgian flavours in a surprisingly balanced, massive beer.
