Doan’s Craft Brewery Taps The First Kegs At Their East Vancouver Brewery
East Vancouver has a new brewery in a familiar location. The Doan’s Craft Brewery has opened up shop and tapped the kegs at 1830 Powell Street in Vancouver. You may recognize the location as the former Powell Street Brewery. Stepping inside the space is small and cozy but far more open than it has been in the past. With seating for a dozen or so people it is easy to pull in for a flight then leave growler-in-hand.
The official opening day was Thursday May 7th but there were no fireworks to celebrate. Soft-launching the brewery was a tactical move to work out the kinks and ensure all the kegs were aligned before welcoming the masses. Still, with little to no advertising, the first Saturday had a line out the door with thirsty patrons awaiting their first taste of Doan’s beer.
Pouring from the taps for tasters and growler fills is a Kolsch, Altbier and IPA. Three fairly traditional styled beers give a nice range of flavour in a very approachable launch trio. More styles of beer will likely come soon but the launch beers offer a delicious and unique BC taste. Everyone in BC seems to love an IPA but by launching an Altbier and Kolsch, Doan’s is right on track for a unique and sessionable flavour for the BC Summer ahead.
The Doan’s name comes from the fact that brothers Mike and Evan Doan along with business partner Kevin Sharpe worked for more than three years to make the brewery a reality. It is time for you to chase down the freshest flavour in BC craft beer. Doan’s craft brewery is open for business. Bring your thirst and your growlers to 1830 Powell Street and your wishes will be answered.
The Three Launch beers from Doan’s Craft Brewery are:
Kolsch – Fermented with German ale yeast and brewed with German malts.
Altbier – Munich as a base malt? Yes! It’s delicious. All German malts, Spalt hops and German ale yeast.
Rye IPA – 60 IBU of delicious rye IPA. Maris Otter base and balanced rye spice.
Can’t Wait to get in there and give it a try, been hearing a lot about these guys. (sent from Phuket Thailand)
