Spinnaker’s Brewery – Hollie Wood Oyster Stout Review
In Victoria based, Spinnaker Brewery’s 30th year of brewing they have laid out the red carpet with the Hollie Wood Oyster Stout. Brewed with real Fanny Bay oysters this oddity of craft beer styles has been catching on in recent years. At 7.6% this is a big stout with a surely unique flavour. Opening the glamourous bottle this beer pours into the glass appearing as a thick, black beer with a thin finger of head which settles moderately quickly. An aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and a slight brininess engulph the nostrels in a rather intriquing smell. No, it does not smell like oysters. The flavour is smooth and creamy with strong chocolate, nut and an almost milk-stout like texture. A slight salty-brininess comes into play but is rather subdued. If this beer had no label you would not guess that it is an oyster stout but the Oyster content thickens the body and gives a nice, slightly salty flavour to the beer. All-in-all, the Hollie Wood Oyster Stout is a delicious brew from Spinnaker’s.
