Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – 2015 Russian Imperial Stout Review
The Russian Imperial is back for another year from the brewing team at Parallel 49. the 2015 brew for this beer is an impressive 11.9% alcohol and a reasonable 46 IBU. From the clean, wax dipped bottle this bold brew pours as a thick and dense black colour. A finger and a half thick of head slowly emerges from the depths of the beer as a dense and thick cap atop the pitch black liquid. The light brown coloured head gives off an aroma of Bourbon Oak, Molasses and a touch of chocolate. The smell forecasts a rather potent brew. Tasting the beer a thick and dark body starts off with an oaky, dark flavour. This builds into a molassis and bourbon mid-section. As the finish approaches a vanilla-oak flavour along with a chocolate sweetness emerges making for a smooth and rather complex flavour profile. This is not the smoothest Imperial Stout on the market but the flavour is delicious. With each passing year the parallel 49 Russian Imperial Stout seems to get better and better.
