Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – 2014 Barley Wine Review
Parallel 49 Brewing Company has released a wax sealed barley wine dated at 2014. Upon release that may not seem important but this beer has already aged 10 months to level out the flavours. From the bottle this beer pours an amber coloured beer with a thin finger of quickly settling head. The P49 Barley Wine smells of oak, bourbon and a kick of booze. The oak aging process has truly made its impact here. In tasting this big and powerful beer it has a big body and a big flavour. A smooth and creamy texture hits the tongue building a big bourbon-oak body. It is very smooth though and isn’t nearly as boozy as you may expect. At 11.8% this is a formidable opponent but plays a light hand on your palate. The Whisky tones make a big impact and add great depth to the flavour making for a smooth, flavourful and very nice bodied Barley Wine.
