Main Street Brewing Co. – Stag and Pheasant Imperial Stout Review
It has not taken long for the Main Street Brewing Company to hit the ground running with seasonal offerings. Their Stag and Pheasant is the first beer that they have brewed featuring a wax dipped top and at 9% and 65 IBU this is a highly anticipated brew. Cutting through the wax top and pouring the beer this bottle reveals a pitch black in colour brew with three-plus fingers of very dense, very slow to settle head. An aroma of toasted malt, smoke, molasses and hop bitterness hits the nose but does not come across with the expected intensity. The flavour is massive with a big body and very strong palate. A bitterness comes into the picture right off the bat with a smokiness which intensifies the flavour. The body is rather creamy and a hint of chocolate can be found in the flavour but is soon masked by the strong bitterness and smoke tones. This is not a typical Imperial Stout but is unique, bitter and quite enjoyable.
