Fernie Brewing Co. – Hot Saw India Brown Ale Review
Fernie Brewing Company has released a new twist on classic BC flavours. Blending the IPA style with a darker Brown Ale this is the Hot Saw India Brown Ale. Adorned with the new new style Fernie Brewing labels this beer pours from the bottle as a very dark brown colour tinged with a reddish hue. Topping the darkly coloured beer is three thick fingers of off-white, dense and lacing head. Through this thick cap comes a hoppy nose with a malty coffee and chocolate tone with it. Piney hops are front and center but well balanced against the smell of a dark and complex beer. The flavour is big with coffee tones in a bittersweet package. Chocolate and coffee build into a well hopped, bitter mid-section to finish but the coffee notes linger throughout. The coffee and chocolate tones are much stronger than a typical brown ale leading more towards a light-bodied porter. The IPA hop-kick is a delicious and unique twist though giving a wonderful BC flavour to a rather complex beer.
