Tofino Brewing Co. – Dawn Patrol Coffee Porter Review

From the West Coast of Vancouver Island the Tofino Brewing Company has brewed up the Dawn Patrol Coffee Porter.  This beer was brewed with locally roasted coffee beans and bourbon soaked Vanilla Beans for a unique and complex flavour. The Dawn Patrol appears as a deep reddish-brown colour with three fingers of head topping the glass. Through this thick and dense top of head comes a coffee and chocolate aroma reminiscent of a chocolate covered coffee been. A smooth, vanilla flavour balances the equation in a delicate fashion. The body is light but full with a strong coffee flavour along with a chocolate back. Vanilla tones give a creamy texture on the tongue and while the bourbon is not apparent it seems to add another underlying note to the fairly complex flavour profile. While a coffee porter can sometimes come across one dimensional this is nothing of the sort. Delicious and complex the Dawn Patrol is a winter warmer that remains light and smooth on the tongue.
