In the case of Longwood Brewery when you speak of “Super G” you are referring to the Ginger and Ginseng content in the latest Cream Ale. This Asian-inspired beer hit retailers’ shelves rather silently but is awaiting your tasting. From the bomber bottle the Super G pours a deep-amber colour with a single finger of head emerging from the brew. The first hit from the smell of this beer lightly sweet and creamy. Shortly following a ginger hit comes into play along with a formidable Ginseng aroma. The smell is fairly intense with spice but that lingering creaminess helps to meld it all together. In the flavour the Super G Cream Ale is spicy with the Ginger and Ginseng taking charge. A Cream Ale may not seem like the intuitive match here but a light and creamy sweetness allows for the beer to shine with its big spice tones. The sweetness is actually rather light but just enough to enhance the complete package. If you are a fan of Ginger spice but like your beer to remain as a beer this is a wonderful balance of spice with tradition.
