Bomber Brewing Co. – Old Fat Heater Winter Ale Review
Winter is here and Bomber Brewing has brewed up a beer to cure your cold-weather woes. The Old Fat Heater is a tribute to winter as a big and strong Winter Ale. This beer pours from the bottle as a chestnut coloured ale topped with two fingers of dense and lacing head. The Winter heater smells of a creamy and lightly hopped ale. A vanilla like smoothness comes through on the nose along with a nice balance of hops and malts. The aroma is by no means boozy but the creamy nature and other scents hint at the high 8% alcohol rating. The flavour is of a solid and well balanced beer. No spices or other additives to cut the flavour here as this is a true and authentic beer. A strong malt flavour with a toasted, lightly burnt flavour mixes with a mid-bitter hop for a nice balance and a bit more kick that is expected from a big winter ale. The Old Fat Heater is a beer in every form lacking any additives or spices. At the same time the flavour and complexity embraces what we expect from a Winter Ale.
