Strange Fellows Brewery is Open For Business – Stop by for a flight and growler fill!
East Vancouver’s Strange Fellows Brewery is now open and waiting for you to stop by!
As Jim Morrison said, “People are strange when you’re a stranger” so it is time to head down to Clark Dr. in East Vancouver and turn a few strangers into friends. Strange Fellows Brewery is now open for business.
If you were paying attention to the burgeoning Vancouver craft beer scene you may have just noticed a blog called imstartingacraftbrewery.com. This corner of the internet was a multi-year journey following the trials and tribulations of what it takes to open a brewery in Vancouver. Brewery founders and owners Iain Hill and Aaron Jonckheere fought through the red tape through the long and arduous process of building a brewery. There was blood, there was sweat and there was tears but most importantly now, there is beer!
Iain is among the BC craft beer elite with more than 20 years of brewing experience. As his partner in crime, Aaron joins as the head of sales and the business end of brewing. Together they make a dynamic duo which is already making waves in the BC craft beer scene.
Located just north of 1st ave on Clarke drive, Strange Fellows is not only accessible but also makes for a great spot for stopping in for a taste. When you enter the front doors the first thing you will notice is a number of masks looming overhead keeping an eye on those below. As you wander past the growler filling station and into the tasting room tall windows give an inside look into the brewing process. A complete view of the brewhouse gives onlookers a peek into what will soon be tasted in weeks to come.
A relatively large brewing space not only gives this new brewery room to breathe but also to grow. Behind the very visible brewhouse is a series of vertical and horizontal tanks which will undoubtedly soon be accompanied by more, similar vessels.
After pushing your dropped-jaw back into place following first impressions the beer lineup is nothing to shake a stick at. Tasting and growler fills are the starting point for packaging options but tall cans will be hitting the shelves shortly. If there was a water cooler in the Strange Fellows facility you would likely hear rumblings about the Talisman West Coast Pale Ale or the Nocturnum Dark India Pale Ale. That said, each of the 7 beers on tap in their opening week offers a diverse and delicious craft beer flavour. Really there was not wrong turn possible through a full flight of tasting.
It is time that you made a trip out to visit Strange Fellows. They have had a formidable journey it getting where they are today. Head on over to Clarke Drive in East Vancouver and say hello. Tell them that Beer Me BC sent you!
