Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers – Frost Bitten Tea Saison Review
The Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers found enormous success with their Sunkissed Tea Saison which they brewed with Green Roibus Tea. Looking to build on this success and offer a cold-weather alternative the green tea was switched to red rooibos and a few other ingredients were tweaked as well to create the much darker, Winter inspired Frost Bitten Tea Saison. This winter cousin to the Sunkissed is a dark and delicious, but also tea infused beer just in time for the shortened days of winter. The Frost Bitten Tea Saison appears as a deep-amber/chestnut colour with two fingers of head which settles without a trace. The aroma is rather tea like. Compared to the Summer counterpart this beer has strong rooibos tones on the nose. This along side a mild spice and light wheat tones makes for a smooth and rather refreshing winter nose. The flavour too is quite big on the tea notes. A pleasant and dry, tea flavour adds to the mild wheat tones and a kick of rye flavour to add a bit of spice to a dark saison. The Frost Bitten Tea Saison is very unique and the tea flavour is bigger than you would expect. Give it a go and you will surely love this unique twist on the Saison style
