University Brew Clubs Compete for the Hops Connect Cup

In the second annual Hops Connect Cup four BC university home-brew clubs came together to compete with their best beer recipes. Put on by Hops Connect and Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers this year’s event saw entries across 5 categories by students from UBC, SFU, UVic and Kwantlen Polytechnic. Competing for awards in the Categories Wheat Ale, Saison, Pale Ale, IPA and Stout/Porter Kwantlen Polytechnic, SFU and UBC each took home awards for their unique and now award winning beers. While UVic was seemingly missing from the awards their Freja Brau Porter took home the Best In Show award. This beer will be brewed at Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers with the assistance of the UVic brew club using Hops Connect hops where all of BC will have the opportunity to give it a try. Last year’s winning brew was the Hopparella IPA from SFBrew

The most coveted award from the evening of competition is the Hops Connect Cup. Awarded to the brewery with the highest score across all categories this trophy represents the brewers who are consistent across all categories with quality  and unique product. The winner of the 2014 Hops Connect Cup is UBC’s BrUBC.
