Cannery Brewing Co. – Knucklehead Pumpkin Ale Review
The pumpkin game is alive in BC and one of the favourites comes from Penticton BC in the form of Cannery Brewing Company’s Knucklehead Pumpkin Ale. Released later than most pumpkin beers this brew uses Okanagan Knucklehead pumpkins that ripen slightly later than typical varieties. To top things off this spiced Brown Ale sells out extremely quickly but if you manage to find a bottle you will notice a beer that pours a slightly opaque, copper-brown colour topped with two fingers of head. From this Pumpkin-spiced Ale comes an aroma of creamy pumpkin spice. Notes of nutmeg and allspice with toasted pumpkin notes hit the nose in a smooth and creamy scent. The flavour too kicks off smooth and creamy building with fall spice taste. Despite the 250 pounds of knucklehead pumpkins used in this brew the flavour is not over the top. A relatively mellow pumpkin flavour and subdued spices let the Brown Ale shine with an added punch of flavour to go with it. This beer is the best of both world being a delicious brown ale while still offering you a trip on the BC craft beer pumpkin train!
