Dead Frog Brewing Co. – Bucking Sheep Buckwheat IPA Review
Dead Frog Brewing’s latest brewing endeavor has taken them into greener pastures where Buckwheat is the flavour inspiration. The Bucking Sheep is a Buckwheat IPA brewed with Citra and Centennial hops. The beer pours as a rather cloudy, golden colour with a finger and a half of thick and lacing head. From the Bucking Sheep comes an aroma of citrus, tropical fruit and a floral hop bitterness. The buckwheat content seems to soften the aroma and along with wheat give a smoother and more sessionable nose. In the flavour the beer starts off with a big citrus front that builds into a floral-wheat centre. The buckwheat gives a dry and floral bitterness reminiscnet of a dandiloin flavouring. As the flavour comes to a close the beer leaves a bitterness from the hops and a floral flavour from the buckwheat. The wheat tones also tend to linger giving a fairly complex and unique overall flavour profile. If you like the White IPA style this takes things a little bit further into unique, BC IPA flavours.
