Cannery Brewing Co. – Blackberry Porter Review
As the summer days begin to shorten the blackberries start to ripen and BC goes into picking chaos. BC loves blackberries so it is no suprise that Cannery’s Blackberry Porter is a big hit across the province. This beer comes in a 650ml, bomber bottle and pours a very deep brown colour which lets the slightest of light through. Atop the beer comes a finger’s worth of head which leaves significant lacing behind on the glass. From the beer comes strong, slightly jammy tones and a chocolate aroma. The smell is reminiscent of a chocolate covered cherry except with the subtlety of blackberry. The taste starts off relatively light and builds to a chocolaty centre. The blackberry tones start off mild and build as the flavour progresses until the finish is mostly blackberry with the smoothness of chocolate along side. When all is said and done a hop bitterness emerges and balances the sweetness which would otherwise linger. In this beer the blackberry is quite big and there is a sweetness that comes with it but overall it is rather balanced and quite enjoyable. This may be a bottle to share but you will both enjoy it!
