Revelstoke BC may have some of the best skiing in BC but it is also home to a longstanding staple in BC craft beer. The Mt. Begbie Brewing Company can be found in the heart of Revelstoke where they have brewed unique and delicious craft beer for more than 15 years. You may know this brewery for their longstanding staples such as the Tall Timber Ale, High Country Kolsch or the pun-intended Bob’s Your Dunkel but this brewery also has some new tricks up their sleeves.
Bart and Tracey Larson opened this mountain based brewery back in 1996 as an escape from the mundane and a passion project around the love for craft beer. Since this opening day the philosophy has always been focused on consistency, planning and organic growth. While it is easy to jump on every trend in craft beer, Bart and Tracey sailed an even keel to produce a beer that pushed boundaries of tradition but also stayed true to the Mt Begbie Brand. Endurance is a key to success in any business and while taking the quick buck may have helped in the short run it is the focus and strategic direction illustrated here which has lead to continued success and strategic, organic growth.
With such a focus it may seem that change is forbidden but that is simply not true. Through the years the beer, branding and direction for Mt Begbie have evolved and while they are offering a beer today which adheres to the original brand principles the overall impression is quite different. On the shelves of BC craft beer retailers today you will find new and innovative options such as the Tailwhip Munich Helles Lager and Illa Swilla Wit which offer traditional yet new frame on craft beer.
The local community also proves to be a continued focus for the team at Mt Begbie. Embrace from local restaurants and pubs is the reason there is no tasting room on site at this brewery and beers such as the Darkside Of The Stoke further compound a commitment to local. Brewed with locally roasted coffee beans this beer is not only delicious but incorporates locally inspired flavours into a delicious winter warming beer.
Being part of each and every craft beer spike has great opportunity but in the end consistency and quality prevail. Mt Begbie Brewing Company has proven through more than 15 years of brewing that they are here to stay and will continue to satisfy the palates of local customers as well as those that come from the reaches of British Columbia. This team is here to satisfy your thirst and give you a craft beer experience along the way!
I look forward to visiting them.
